Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
The athlete, a former number one, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with former coach Cervara.
Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from March of that year.
The win also signifies he has secured 21 victories at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.
His retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an improved serving game.
The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
The opponent defended four early-game chances in a close third set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
